About Us

Since 2022

I grew up learning the basics of cooking, but that was mostly learning how to use the same basic spices. In 2022, a shift began in our family. We were never a family that went out or got take out often, but we did eat a lot of convenience foods and prepackaged foods at the store. It felt like eating from scratch, but it wasn’t. 

In November of 2022, I learned that the preservatives and food dyes in our food may be making my kids sick. They had a severe developmental delay and I was desperate to do anything I coud to help them. So I made a goal to learn to cook one new thing from scratch every week to replace the store-bought version.

The Morristead Mission

My family’s health is my mission. It took 2 months after starting that goal to see an improvement in my kids’ developmental delay. They responded to their name for the first time and the improvement just kept going. It has not been perfect progress. There has been a few times when I had to buy things that I knew how to make. But the goal is progress, not perfection. I also don’t want to teach unhealthy food relationships. We still buy things like skittles sometimes since my ids love them. However, the normal day-to-day diet is getting closer and closer to being fully homemade.

As I continue my journey, I am taking you along so you can get a heads start if you start cooking more from home too. We are also expanding to show you how we are building our homestead. So come with us on our journey! You may learn something great!
