As I am writing this article, I have been pumping breastmilk for a milk bank for almost 6 months
I have tried different lactation treats, but they have all either tasted terrible or harmed my supply.
So… I decided to make my own!
I make this regularly ( like the recipe below) or use sourdough discard
It just depends on whether I have the extra sourdough discarded or not
These brownies are fudgy and delicious
How long does it take for lactation brownies to work?
Most of the time, you start seeing results from changes in your breastfeeding routine in 5 to 7 days
But it can take up to 11 days
This includes eating lactation treats
Personally, I see results right away when I eat these
How many lactation brownies should I eat a day?
It is recommended to eat 1-3 brownies a day if you want to see good results
I don’t limit myself since I only put one serving of the supplements in this recipe
I just allow myself to enjoy a piece when I want some!
What makes these for lactation instead of regular brownies?
There are a few ingredient changes that make these good for lactation
The first change is using oat flour instead of all-purpose flour
I just take regular oats and blend them in my blender until they look like flour
This helps keep the brownies a nice texture
Another change I made is exchanging some butter for coconut oil
I also add flaxseed powder and Brewer’s yeast to these brownies
Both of those has shown to help increase breastmilk supply
Can my family eat lactation brownies?
Yes, your family can eat lactation brownies
There is nothing bad or strange in these brownies
They are considered lactation brownies since they are rich in nutrients that breastfeeding moms need
But all of those ingredients are safe for the rest of the family
Ingredients:
½ cup butter
¼ cup coconut oil
1 cup chocolate
1 cup sugar
½ cup brown sugar
½ cup cocoa or cacao
3 eggs
¾ cup oat flour (I blend oats to get oat flour)
½ tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla extract
2.5 tbsp flaxseed Powder
2 tbsp brewer’s yeast
½ cup chocolate chips
Instructions:
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and line a baking pan with parchment paper
In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter, coconut oil, and chocolate until fully melted
In a mixer, mix the sugar, brown sugar, cocoa powder, and eggs until well combined
Add the chocolate mixture and oat flour
If you don’t have oat flour, blend oats in a blender until it looks like flour
Mix until just combined
Add the salt, vanilla, flaxseed powder, and brewer’s yeast
Mix until just combined
I like to add more chocolate chips inside the batter
Add batter to prepared pan and sprinkle more chocolate chips on top
Bake at 350 degrees for 30-45 minutes or until a toothpick comes out mostly clean
Allow the brownies to cool for at least 15 minutes before you cut them
