When I first started my sourdough starter, I was planning on using it to make bread
Then I found out about the sourdough discard and became determined to never waste it
Now I cook with the discard more than I bake bread!
Some of my favorite recipes using sourdough discard are:
- Brownies
- Frosted Flakes
- Pie crust
- Apple fritters
- Mini corn dogs
- Pancakes
- Donuts
Brownies
I love brownies!
And so does the rest of my family
Which is a rare thing in my home!
These brownies are soft and delicious
Frosted Flakes
Cereal is always a need in my home
It is an easy breakfast
This frosted flakes recipe is super simple and delicious
It also uses a lot of sourdough discard!
You can make a bunch of this and store it in jars
It is always gone so fast in my home
Pie crust
Pie crust is something that can be used in many different ways
I’ve used it to make poptarts and pizza pockets
And I plan to make pot pie with it soon!
Apple fritters
Apple fritters are one of my favorite treats to make in my home
I use the pulp leftover from making Apple juice to make the fritters
I’m not a big cooked Apple fan, but that is a texture issue
That isn’t a problem with this recipe since the pulp is so small
Mini corn dogs
I love freezer meals
I make more than enough as often as possible to help keep up with the food demand in my home
With 2 young boys, a husband, and me being a breastmilk donar, we go through a lot of food
Mini corndogs are simple to make and just need to be reheated in the oven, microwave, or air fryer when you are ready to eat them
Pancakes
Pancakes are another excellent make ahead meal
I make a lot of Pancakes at once and freeze most of them
Then I can reheat breakfast quickly every morning
Donuts
This is the only recipe that needs yeast added to make it work
Donuts need to be light and fluffy so the yeast is a requirement
You can do that with active sourdough starter or by adding yeast to sourdough discard
